Marco Pierre White was a notorious rebel of the 80’s. Born in Northern England Marco Pierre White went from a boy in a working class family to a 3 Michelin star chef. In this report I will talk about Marco’s restaurant Harvey's , Him training Gordon Ramsay and Marco eventually returning his 3 michelin stars
In 1987 Marco opened a restaurant called Harvey's. This restaurant specialised in french cuisine as Marco wanted to replicate France’s biggest restaurants. This was a cooperation of Marco and Nigel Platts Martin who was a restaurateur. In this restaurant grew Marco’s reputation as a notorious rebel as a short TV show that featured the young rebel. This show represented the pressure that was on Marco as his restaurant before had 2 Michelin stars and as well as showing recipes such as preparing a panache Foie gras and seared scallops. Marco grew a reputation as an often moody chef as in an interview he expressed how he often has no time to himself and no social life. Marco is also not the most emotional person as he only really smiles a couple of times and mostly has a deadpan expression. However this moody deadpan head chef of Harvey's was one of the mentors of one of the greatest Michelin starred chefs in the world and his name is Gordon Ramsay
Gordon Ramsay is known for his temper. His quick wit and insults are quite infamous with the Scottish chef. These tactics are to push chefs to the brim and test their commitment and loyalty. Ramsay got these tactics from his mentors such as Marco Pierre White. In the very short TV show about Marco briefly in episode 1 we can see Marco gets frustrated with his apprentices and cuss a little bit in the episode. This treatment was often common in the 90’s as a way to push the apprentices to their very brim in order to push themselves further. As Gordon Ramsay once said “the thicker your skin, trust me the higher you’ll go” this quote is essentially the foundation of why chefs were and still are so rough because they care most about you and want to push you. Marco taught Gordon fitness and speed as he could make a dish in quick succession in a fast timely manner yet still retain that finesse. Now Marco has achieved many things in his younger days however in 1999 Marco Pierre White handed back his 3 Michelin stars.
Michelin was a very serious thing for chefs. 1 star meant your food was at a high quality. 2 stars meant your food was at the highest quality it can get. 3 stars meant your restaurant as well as the food was at the highest quality and luxury it can get. To gain Michelin stars you need to play an attacking game whilst protecting those stars requires a defending game. Marco’s journey to a 3 star Michelin star chef was gruelling with blood , sweat and tears and years of cooking and nothing else. However Marco has stated that protecting those 3 stars was the most boring thing in the world. This is because in a kitchen the chefs are sort of high functioning robots. They’ve been programmed to make certain recipes fast and quickly this information has been hammered into their heads again and again. So now those no struggle now the kitchen are programmed robots all programmed to do a certain task which is cooking. Cooking now longer gave Marco any pleasure so in 1999 Marco returned his stars. This was because Marco thought he was being judged by people who had less knowledge than him so what was it worth?
Marco Pierre White ran a 3 Michelin starred restaurant that trained one of the most famous chefs in the world and then decided to return those stars because it wasn’t worth it. Marco’s maturity and life lessons are all something we can learn from. Commitment and loyalty and the ability to not give up are the reasons why he succeeded and now Marco shares his wisdom now as a retired chef but a great human being no less.
Sherlock Holmes and his doctor John Watson are now reunited after years of being separated due to John getting married. Sherlock is now on a case that is in Bohemia involving called Irene Adler. Sherlock deduces that John has gained around 3 pounds since he last saw him showing very prominent skills in deduction. I predict in the next paragraph Sherlock and Watson will work together to solve this case and I think that Irene Adler will play a very prominent role in this story.
Madagascar is the fourth forest country in the world and is one of the safest in the world. It’s people are one of the nicest and most beautiful people that you will ever meet and one of the most diverse. In this information report I will talk about the tradition and food of the Malagasy people , the living style of the Malagasy people and the animals in Madagascar.
The Malagasy people have a tradition of eating rice as their main dish. In fact the dish is so important to the Malagasy people that some won’t be able to sleep if they don’t have rice. This has led to 47% of children under 5 years are stunted and 8% weight is low from their height. Also when consuming rice you must eat at the speed the host is eating otherwise they may give you more food that was intended for tomorrow which is not good for the family. Many of the street foods in Madagascar are deep fried such as deep fried bananas or deep fried peppers. The national dish of Malagasy is Romazava which is meat , tomatoes , greens , zebu and onions which is accompanied by rice.
Most of the people living in Madagascar live in rural areas in the south, most work as farmers and produce and coffee. Madagascar is also a very youthful country as 60% of its population is under 25. Music is a very important part of Malagasy lifestyle. One of the instruments that Malgagasy play are the Valiha which is sort of a guitar like instrument. Malgasy food is
often inspired by the countries around them such as Southeast Asia. An unusual activity that the Malagasy indulge in every few years is to dig out the grave of their ancestors and dance with their bones. After the party is over they bury the bones back in the grave.
Madagascar is home to around 1000 species of animals. One common animal is the ring-tailed lemur that is most associated with Madagascar based on the recent movies made on it. There are more species of meurs out there in Madagascar such as the silky sifaka lemur which is endangered and one of the rarest lemurs in the world. It’s name means Angel of the Forest. There is also a unique bat to Madagascar which is the aye aye bat which has the ears of a bat and the teeth of a rat and uses its middle fingers to dig out bugs in the trees. There is also the flat tailed Gecko which is like a dried brown leaf and can camouflage in trees. Some animals are also extinct in Madagascar and some are still endangered.
In conclusion Madagascar is an interesting country home to the most amazing food and interesting animals and traditions. While some of its traditions may seem bizarre Madagasy people are very nice and kind people that will let in a complete stranger to dine in for dinner because of how kind they are. It is also a safe country that is desirable for any tourist to come to with amazing food and interesting people.
Year 8 camp was one of the most fun experiences I've ever had in my life. It gave us independence and it felt weird not to rely on my family members for once to do clothes and all. I loved the responsibility though of getting your own clothes and sleeping by yourself without your parents. My favourite activity of camp was the go carts as it was super fast when you were driving it but when your watching it it's pretty slow and it was pretty terrifying to drive. However I think the whole point of camp was to do things that are out of our comfort zone and to step up and be leaders. It gave me more confidence and it allowed me to volunteer for things rather then get picked to do it. Overall Camp was an amazing experience that I hope to experience again and I loved how it pushed me out of my comfort zone and made me do things I didn't think I would be doing.
(This is a video of me doing a speech to Zach and his camp team.)In this task we had to write down how we're showing leadership and what is our leadership goals.
In this activity we had to answer questions about Venus and make a writing report about the planet.
In this task we had to do fractions in different stations . I'm in station 1 but when we finished it we were able to do station 2 so I did that as well.
In this task we had to solve questions involving fractions , decimals and percentages.
Naomi Misora is a FBI Agent on leave for vacation. She's reminiscing on her time in the FBI and wonders if the career she chose was wise or not. That was when she suddenly gets an email on her computer. She checks it and it says it's from her husband Raye Penber. This turns out to be an email from the greatest detective in the world L messaging from her husbands email. The email tells her to hack into a server he's on so they can discuss the recent murders that have been happening in LA and also to destroy the computer within a 24 hour time span. Naomi begrudgingly does what the email tells her to do and ends up on a server talking to L. Keep in mind L doesn't ever show his face. They decide that Naomi will investigate in L's name as L is currently busy solving multitudes of other cases. I believe that in the next paragraph Naomi will discover some clues at the crime scene and maybe aid her in catching the killer
In this story Saitama faces off against a giant purple monster called Vaccine Man. The reader is lead on that this villain is incredibly strong only for Saitama to do one swift punch that vaporises the entire villain. Saitama shouts into the sky in frustration for another measly fight. Saitama is struggling with a existential boredom as he questions what is the meaning of his life. What happens when everything that used to be hard and challenging now boring and mundane? One Punch Man explores that with it's narrative. I predict in the next chapter that perhaps Saitama will find something to distract himself with as right now it seems no matter how many villains Saitama faces it only ends in one punch.
In this homework activity we needed to find out how big the Earth was , how much water is on it and what is the temperature of Earth.
Term 2: What We're Learning About This Term
Today is the first day of term 2 and we're all back from our fun 2 week break and back for 11 weeks of learning. I'll be explaining what each of Point England's teams are learning about.
Team 1
Team 1 is learning about the sun and where it comes from. When the sun sets and when the sun rises where does it go to. There are many myths of where the sun goes but where does the sun actually go? These are the questions team 1 is going to answer and learn about.
Team 2
Team 2 is a little more advanced and their going to learn about the sun, moon and earth. The sun , moon and earth connect with each other and work in harmony. The sun shines on the moon giving it's light and the sun gives the earth it's light as well. Team 2 will be learning about these 3 interesting things of the solar system and learn how important these 3 things are.
Team 3
Team 3 is going to learn about the moon. From the legend of Rona and the moon team 3 will learn about the thing Rona is connected to which is the moon. They will learn interesting things about the thing that orbits the earth and will come out more knowledgeable about the subject.
Team 4
Team 4 is learning about the earth. In the immersion assembly they did a parody of guardians of the galaxy and will come up with raps and make music about the earth. They will be learning about how to take care of the earth as well as learning about the solar system.
Team 5
Team 5 is going to learn about the solar system as a whole. We're all going to learn about all the planets and the interesting facts about them. This will give us all a better understanding of each of the planets and how the universe came into existence.
This term is going to be a blast of learning and I can't wait to learn about the solar system.
